The team consists of three people, two cyclists and one other who will be providing team support. The cyclists are John Loveridge and Marion Johnson, Joy Loveridge will be providing the support
John Loveridge is a grandfather of three and this will be his first ever attempt at cycling such a distance. His inspiration for this challenge comes from his sister Marion Johnson, a grandmother of 11, who at the age of 63 completed this classic “End to End” bike ride in May 2012 having started at Land’s End.
John has just recently retired from full time work but still keeps actively involved in community and voluntary activities. He has been greatly moved by the brilliant work done by the four charities that the team will be supporting.
Marion Johnson took up the challenge of cycling only in her late 50s. Many residents in Sidmouth often see Marion going for her daily bike rides in the Sid Valley. She successfully completed the bike ride from Lands End to John O’ Groats in May 2012 and willingly accepted the challenge to do the return leg this year.
Marion is a very busy grandmother and fundraiser for the Rwenzori Development Foundation.
Marion and John both live in Sidmouth and have a special connection to Sidmouth Victoria Cottage Hospital which is where they were born, and John is a trustee of the Sidmouth Victoria Hospital Comforts Fund.
Team support is crucial to the success of this bike ride which will be supported throughout by John’s wife Joy who will be driving their newly acquired camper-van. The van will be a valuable back-up vehicle providing accommodation every night and a day-time shelter. Joy will be able to prepare refreshments and meals in the van which will help minimize the considerable costs of running this event. The van will carry a complete tool-kit for the bikes, a work-shop cycle-stand to enable regular maintenance and fix running repairs, and carry a spare bike.
Joy will assist in providing a regular single point of contact for the cyclists and for anybody else who wishes to contact the team whilst they are on the road.
